Scrum

.
Rugby In Forest Park 3

Back at the St. Louis Ramblers rugby game. I believe this collision is called a scrum. When required (and I can't tell you when that is) the teams bend down and press mightily into one another. Someone rolls the ball down the center between them. The the players push, claw and scrape one another, trying to kick the ball back to one of their runners, who swings out and dashes toward the goal line. The tall green and white player near the center has the ball, but look at the expression of madness on the face of the black and red man rushing at him, hands thrown apart in readiness to tear his opponent's head off.

Below: just how wet was that field?

OK. You have caused me to change my mind. I was all set to take up the hobby of playing rugby until I saw your photos.

Oooh love these shots. Yes, a scrum and it looks like the black Budweisers have lost the ball to the Irish.

There's a saying that Rugby is a game for barbarians played by gentlemen. Football is a game for gentlemen played by barbarians.

Great action shots! Looks like fun, but quite physical!
