It sounds like it should be a word in Spanish: Perdón, señor. ¿Dónde están los locavores? But no. The neologism is defined on the banner. People assume that most or all of the food in Soulard Farmers Market is locally grown. However, I've read that the majority comes from the area's wholesale food distributors and could be grown anywhere. It's just cheaper here because of the low overhead operation.

I know what you mean about the sound of that word. At first I thought it was Spanish too. We have a traveling produce truck that sells us produce grown on farms all around here. They only run on Saturday but I love getting local, fresh produce, it tastes so good.
No need to say I thought it was a spanish word I didn't know! :-)
If only farmer's market goods were cheaper than Safeway. No how, no way. At least, not here.
